South African Mint Company: Apprenticeship Programme 2023

The South African Mint Company is inviting South African citizens to apply to join the Apprenticeship Programme 2023.

The Company has an opportunity available for Four (4) prospective apprenticeships in the Engineering Department.

The successful candidates will report to the manager of the Engineering HRD training function.

Considered Trade

The company will consider prospective apprenticeship in the following trades for the 2022 intake. 

  • 2X Toolmaker
  • 1X Fitter
  • 1X Fitter and Turner

Eligibility

Applicant must be:

  • Have a technical Technical Aptitude and interest in engineering
  • Not registered for another  apprenticeship program
  • No criminal record

Process

The Apprenticeship program will take place in 3 phases:

Phase 1:

The successful apprentices will complete a course of a minimum period of 6 Months which covers all the training modules in theory and simulated practical for the trade. 

This phase will be completed at SEIFSA Training Centre.

Phase 2:

Upon successful completion of phase 1, apprentices will cover all the modules for the trade by way of practical workplace experience for a minimum period of 18 Months. 

This phase will be completed at the company (South African Mint).

Phase 3:

Upon successful completion of phase 1 & 2 , apprentices will be enrolled for their Trade Test.

Ability test / Assessments

Shortlisted applicants should be prepared to undergo a formal assessment and pre-employment medical checks as part of the selection process.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Grade 12 subjects must have Mathematics and Science with four Engineering related subjects at N5 level including Mathematics and Science with a pass mark of 60% or more on standard grade level.

Terms and Conditions

Permanent employees within the company who wish to apply for an apprenticeship must take note that their employment status will not change as permanent employees while they undergo the apprenticeship program.

Their level of pay will however change to that of an Apprentice for the duration of the program.

Upon successful completion of their trade, employees will retain their original roles as permanent employees in the positions that they left before joining the apprenticeship program. 

The placement of qualified apprentices into permanent employment for their trades will only take place through the recruitment process for existing vacancies.

NB. Applications must be accompanied by certified copies of qualifications and ID.

Preference will be given to employees/applicants from designated groups in line with the provisions of the Employment Equity Act, Employment Equity Plan and Company’s recruitment policy.
